North West Premier Thandi Modise has appealed to men to do annual screening and testing for breast cancer. Modise says in a statement released on Sunday morning that although male breast cancer is rare, men can develop the disease.
She said they should be aware of it and seek help if they find a breast lump. She was speaking at the second annual North West Province BRICS Charity Golf Challenge in Mahikeng on Saturday.
Funds raised at the charity golf day, which was aimed at raising cancer awareness, would go to various charities and foundations including the Cancer Association of South Africa, and the Kgaratlho Home for the Blind.
Recently, Pfizer Inc's experimental breast cancer drug significantly improved patient survival rates in a mid-stage trial without their condition worsening, maintaining the company's lead in the race for a new treatment standard for the disease.
